The Senior Quality Project Engineer will design, develop, implement, maintain, and improve the quality systems and controls necessary to ensure that purchased components meet specified Engine Division quality requirements, and customer application requirements.


HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
Work with the suppliers of the Engine Division to improve supplier performance and communication.
Participate in process for new and redesigned products to insure the compatibility of the design and the process capability. Act as team leader for Quality in new product design reviews.
Analyze failures which occur in the field and/or in the process to identify and correct root cause problems which can assist in warranty reduction.
Develop information systems at designated points in the process to provide effective and timely data for analysis of process effectiveness and quick problem detection.
Provides the technique and guidance for selecting and implementing the appropriate approach to study the effects of significant factors affecting quality. Identify the critical process variables for process improvement projects and reduction of variation.
Takes an active role in stimulating quality and productivity improvement projects through process and equipment changes utilizing proven quality engineering techniques.
Design and conduct periodic audits of quality system procedures, standard operating procedures, and purchased components to insure compliance with quality system requirements and appropriate specifications. Issue reports on findings and follow-ups, as required, to achieve necessary corrective action.
Analyze individual product/process quality cost components and advise suppliers and design engineering personnel on cost/quality improvement potential. Assist supplier's areas in development of meaningful quality measurements.
Participate in the preparation of annual quality improvement plans necessary to perpetuate an effective group quality process.
Participate in developing and implementing Quality Systems.
Evaluate requests for deviations from specification, estimate risks/costs associated with it, and recommend disposition to management.
Participate in the group quality training efforts including conducting classes in the various quality technologies as required including facilitating continuous improvement events at suppliers.
Develop and issue reports, conduct related meetings, make recommendations, and initiate corrective action for all listed responsibilities.

RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS
Supervisory Relationships:
Reports to the Manager - Supplier Quality
Organizational Relationships:
Frequent contact with Division management regarding quality NPD products, and warranty improvements
Frequent contact with Manufacturing Engineering regarding product and process.
Frequent contact with Design Engineering regarding compatibility of design, Design for Manufacturing, and process capabilities.
Frequent contact with Purchasing regarding supplier selection, supplied components or materials and the associated impact on production operations.
Occasional contact with Sales and Service areas regarding field claims, field corrections, and product improvements.
Occasional contact with Marketing regarding customer product requirements, both visual and functional.
External Relationships:
Frequent contact with suppliers regarding materials and/or components. Will also participate in supplier audits, assisting suppliers with related quality systems activities, and conducting training at the suppliers' facilities as needed.
Occasional contacts with customers, including distributors, engine contractors, and end consumers regarding products shipped.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - WHAT YOU NEED TO QUALIFY
Bachelor's degree in engineering is preferred; Material Science or Mechanical Engineering is acceptable.
3
years of practical experience in plastic manufacturing, tooling or quality processes is required.
Strong working knowledge of GD&T is required.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally is required.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated understanding of internal combustion engine basics, root cause analysis, corrective action, continuous improvement tools, quality systems, statistics, and leadership.
Skill Level:
Performs the quality engineering tasks described for technical assignments of fairly broad scope with only general direction by supervision. The incumbent should be readily capable of applying engineering fundamentals to practical problem solving and should be developing skills in advanced product/process related technology. Performance will often include original inventive solutions to problems. Project planning skills, as well as evaluation and critique, are important.
